About Perthshire Treks
Helping more people to enjoy, explore and learn about Scotland's brilliant nature, landscapes and history, particularly here in Highland Perthshire, is very important to us. We've been doing this throughout our careers - from writing the Scottish Outdoor Access Code to developing local path networks - and afterwards.
Richard Davison and Brenda Clough set up Perthshire Treks in 2018 to deliver safe and inspiring guided walking adventures in Highland Perthshire and elsewhere in the Scottish Highlands. In 2024, we decided to scale back the business and Brenda has now retired from leading walks. We'll continue to add more inspiring walks to the website as a way of encouraging people to get outdoors and explore!
Richard and Phil are intending to still do some occasional guiding, either together or individually.
Richard Davison

Richard started hillwalking over 40 years ago and he's been enjoying Scotland's fantastic outdoors ever since. He completed the Munro's in 1997 and the Corbett's in 2024, and in recent years he's done quite a bit of ski touring. Richard has led walks with HF Holidays, C-n-Do Scotland and Easyways since gaining his Summer Mountain Leader award in 2016. In 1998, Richard and Brenda Clough established Perthshire Treks. Richard is a member of the Mountain Training Association and has an up-to-date emergency outdoor first aid certificate. Before walk guiding, Richard worked with Scottish Natural Heritage for 28 years. During this time, he drafted the national Access Forum's proposals for Scotland's world-class access rights and wrote the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Richard is also an Ambassador for the Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS).
Phil Russell

With a rise in bookings through 2022, we've taken the step of finding a well qualified local walking guide who can help us deliver more guided walking adventures. Phil Russell is a geography teacher who works at the Breadalbane Academy in Aberfeldy. Whenever he's not teaching, or looking after his neighbours' croft, Phil is out in the hills or kayaking somewhere in Scotland! Phil is a fully qualified Summer and Winter Mountain Leader, so he can lead walks throughout the year for Perthshire Treks.
Why choose Perthshire Treks?
We put your safety first: we take your safety very seriously and have emergency outdoor first aid qualifications.
We make full use of our knowledge and experience:
We've completed the Munro's, we're fully qualified Summer Mountain Leaders and, over the last 30 years or so, built up a detailed knowledge of Perthshire and the rest of the Scottish Highlands. We use this to provide high-quality walking adventures off the beaten track.
We add value by providing information & advice: During a guided walk, we'll tell you about the area, what you're seeing and pass on some advice about walking in the outdoors and looking after the environment.
We have a strong environmental approach:
Underpinning our walking adventures is a strong commitment to looking after the environment, upholding Scotland's fantastic access rights and inspiring others to explore and learn about our countryside. If you'd like to know more about our environmental approach, please click here:
