Castles and Waterfalls

Blair Castle & Falls of Bruar

Route: Blair Castle & Falls of Bruar

Distance: 19km

Ascent: 550m

Grade: Strenuous

Time taken: 6-7 hours

This is a super walk starting and finishing at the Glen Tilt car park near Blair Castle. From the car park, the route follows the minor road to the left. After a short distance, there is a small gate in a wall and a good path takes you up to Balvenie Pillar on “The Hangman’s Knoll”. Return to the road and continue on to Old Blair and its ruined church. Shortly after the hamlet, the route follows a track to the right which wanders up by the lovely Banvie Burn and past some old shielings in Glen Banvie.

At the top of the glen, the route reaches an old wood and turns southwards into Glen Bruar. As the track descends above Bruar, the route picks up a path that takes you down to the Falls of Bruar. At this point, it is possible to go all the way down to the House of Bruar and some well-earned refreshments. The route goes back up to the first bridge at the Falls of Bruar and then follows a track through Baluain Wood towards Blair Castle to complete a memorable walk.

The walk takes 6 to 7 hours, depending on the length of stop at the House of Bruar!
