This is a great walk up Schiehallion (1083m) - a famous Perthshire Munro. There are some interesting stories to tell about "the fairy hill of the Caledonians" including an early experiment to measure the mass of the Earth, the invention of contour lines, the Blue Witch, the ancient Fingalians and, more recently, its ownership by the John Muir Trust. On a good day, the hill can offer great views in all directions. 

Starting at the Braes of Foss car park (grid reference NN 753 557), the route follows an excellent path across the moor and past some old shielings. The path climbs up a broad ridge with the views opening out as you head upwards. After reaching the extensive boulder field on the upper slopes, the path becomes a little bit harder to follow. After some boulder hopping you soon reach the summit. On a clear day, the views are excellent in all directions. 

This is a full mountain day reaching a height of 1083m – the temperature and the weather can change a lot between the low valleys and the summit.
