Our response to Covid-19
Perthshire Treks takes your health and well being very seriously.
Outdoor activities like walking have a relatively low risk in relation to Covid-19 as social distancing can be observed and virus transmission is less of a problem. Although Covid-19 requirements are being reduced in scale, we will continue with the following precautions for now:
- We will limit our group sizes to 6 per guide to provide you with a better experience and minimise any risk.
- We will ask you to take the usual precautions if using public transport to get to the start of the walk by wearing a face mask and using hand sanitiser.
- We ask all our clients to bring a face mask with them – this is not for use on the walk itself but for if we need to go into an enclosed space. You will also need hand sanitiser, your own food and water and any medications you may need as well as a small first aid kit to deal with minor cuts and grazes, blisters and ticks.
- Our guides will not be able to share any equipment or clothes with you on the day so please ensure you have sufficient clothing and anything else you may need such as walking poles. If in doubt please contact us for information on what you may need to bring with you. If it is forecast to be wet a spare pair of warm socks is a good idea as is keeping all your spare clothing in a waterproof bag. Most rucksacks aren’t waterproof!
- Your guide will make an assessment on the day of the walk as to whether there are likely to be any issues which may make the walk unsuitable, in which case there will already be a Plan B in place. This could include a forecast for storms or high-water levels. In these situations, for example, our guides will not be able to give physical assistance to clients as they normally would in crossing burns. We will also try to avoid the use of our emergency shelters which would place people in an enclosed environment, but we will use them if necessary.
- We will ask you to provide us with information about your health and checking if you have any Covid-19 symptoms both before the walk and on the day. We will also need full contact details for you and an "in case of emergency" contact.
- As first responders, our guides will be carrying suitable personal protective clothing to administer first aid if necessary but they will try and avoid physical contact if at all possible. Our guides will have a plastic cover for their clothes, disposable gloves, face masks and hand sanitiser. It may also be the case that the guide will ask you to assist in administering first aid either to a member of your own household or possibly to an injured client to help move them to a safer place before calling for assistance.
